I’ve followed the story of the elementary school boy who was allegedly forced to perform oral sex on another boy on a Howell school bus while another watched and agree with Bill Harvey’s letter, “Howell’s reaping what it sows,” in the Sept. 22 edition of the Daily Press & Argus.
I have some questions for Howell Public Schools Superintendent Chuck Breiner and Board of Education President Phil Westmoreland regarding their proposal to find 60 adult volunteers to ride on the bus routes to help protect our children.Why should we feel any safer entrusting our children to random adult volunteers? How do I know that these volunteers have had background checks and do not have any tendencies or prior convictions of sexual abuse towards children?
What’s so hard about a compromise? You give a little, take a little.

It’s nearly unthinkable that two Howell Public Schools elementary boys, ages 9 and 11, are charged with sexually assaulting a 7-year-old boy on a bus ride home in May.
